Research shows there are two motivating factors that drive repeat business in the U.S: an established relationship with customers and access to a loyalty program.
As a Fivestars member, you not only have a killer loyalty program in place, you also have access to tools that keep customers coming through your door.
By using the Promotions tool, you can create, schedule and send specific promotions to increase traffic and sales. You’ll notice when you sign into your dashboard there are three main segments of customers that you can send promotions to: New, VIP and Lost.
To attract customers from each group to your store, here are specific promotions that you can send:
Promotions to send to New Customers
1. ‘Welcome to the family’ offer
When new customers sign up for your program, break out the welcome wagon. You want new members to feel as though they’re part of your business family, so send a warm welcome with an incentive to drop by your business.
Here’s what to enter as a promotion in Fivestars:
- What’s the promotional offer? Save 10% as a new member.
- What’s the occasion? Welcome to the [Name of the Business] family.
- When does it expire? 5/20
The incentive will vary by business. Offering a 10 percent discount is fairly common, but if that doesn’t work you can alter it. A service-based business might offer a free consultation, or a boutique might offer a free gift.
Here’s what to enter as a promotion in Fivestars:
- What’s the promotional offer? Free [consultation, or gift] for new members.
- What’s the occasion? It’s our way of saying welcome to the [Name of the Business] family.
- When does it expire? 5/20
2. New member drawing
Encourage new customers to stop by your business and enter a “new customer drawing.” Be sure to specify what the grand prize is as an incentive to come in, and be sure to include a deadline to enter.
Here’s what to enter as a promotion in Fivestars:
- What’s the promotional offer? Win $50 in store credit, just make a purchase.
- What’s the occasion? This drawing is for new members only, so stop by today and make a purchase.
- When does it expire? One week from date sent.
Promotions to send to VIP Customers
3. Thank you gift
For your most loyal customers, you can roll out the red carpet. Reward them for coming to your business with a free gift. It’s nice to offer something once in a while with no strings attached. You can specify what the gift is, if you want.
Here’s what to enter as a promotion in Fivestars:
- What’s the promotional offer? Loyal customers receive a free gift this week.
- What’s the occasion? Thanks for being a VIP.
- When does it expire? One week from date sent.
4. Loyalty Day celebration
Did you know that May 1 is Loyalty Day? It is. Why not use this nontraditional holiday to send a promotion to your A-list customers?
Here’s what to enter as a promotion in Fivestars:
- What’s the promotional offer? VIP customers get 10% off this weekend.
- What’s the occasion? In celebration of Loyalty Day. (Yea, it’s a real holiday).
- When does it expire? Sunday of the sale.
If you want to be more specific, you can explain the holiday’s purpose. It’s a day for people to show their loyalty to American freedom, so you could offer an American-themed product at a discount. A bakery, for example, could offer a break on Red, White and Blue cupcakes. A boutique could offer 10% off all designer clothes made in America.
Here’s what to enter as a promotion in Fivestars:
- What’s the promotional offer? Happy Loyalty Day! Save 10% on American made items.
- What’s the occasion? Stop by this weekend to save.
- When does it expire? Sunday of the sale.
Promotions to send to Lost Customers
5. ‘We miss you’ offer
Customers stray. It happens. However, you can send a promotion to this specific segment to encourage them to come back.
Here’s what to enter as a promotion in Fivestars:
- What’s the promotional offer? We miss you! Save 10% on your purchase.
- What’s the occasion? We can’t wait to see you again.
- When does it expire? One week from date sent.
Using these five promotions, you can target each segment of your audience and bring in more revenue.
Hi Lisa,
Good job! I noticed that the sample responses to customers contained a Sunday expiration. Was that just an example or do we have to choose Sunday as the emotional expiration day?
